The test results in and we have failed. Every two years, two large Christian organizations partner together to conduct a “State of Theology” survey of evangelicals in this country. And every two years the test results are even worse than they were before.
The fact is: Most people who claim to be “Christians” do not know the fundamentals of the Christian story and Christian belief. And this is a problem. A big problem.
Why? It’s not just that we are failing some test, who really cares about that? It’s that what we believe matters for our worship, obedience, and discipleship. The word “disciple,” literally means “student.”
Christians are students in the school of Christ. He is our teacher, his word is our textbook, and we are to meditate on His works and His words.
This is why I want to invite you to dive into a deep discipleship. Get out of the shallow waters, step into the deep things of God.
This year we are running our Forge Program. A year theological discipleship program where you will be challenged to dive into the deep end. We will explore the Christian story, fundamental Christian beliefs, and core Christian practices.
It is our hope that every member of Mosaic will one day complete this program - and this year is the perfect opportunity for you to jump in. We are now offering this program every other year, so this year is your chance to dive in.
In the Forge Program, you will read, write, discuss, attend lectures, and get opportunities to put what you have learned into practice. You will do all of this with a small group of others in the same journey with you.
It’s a ton of fun and I believe it is incredibly important for our church to be marked by a deep discipleship that enters into the depth and the riches of what God has for us as His people.
